ABSTRACT PAINTING
Having grown
up studying the fine art disciplines of still life and figure drawing, it was
not until several years ago that I was inspired to delve into abstract and
semi-representational art. My love for bold and bright colours and my discovery
of the different tools with which one could apply paint to a canvas helped draw
me into this world abstractionism and engage me into the beginning of a
beautiful relationship with this form of art where there seems to be no rules
and no boundaries.My
abstracts from my latest exhibition burst with vibrant hues and vivacity, and all
have one word names: like ‘Blast’, ‘Rip’ or ‘Strike’. Each title represents a
type of action, being either a verb or a word that denotes a motion. The word
“art” is only one letter different to the word “act”, and my paintings
accentuate the connection between the two. The work in this section signifies
that all art is an act, or an “active” form of expression, from the initial
inspiration that becomes a sketch, to the creation and completion of the
painting itself. The visible brush strokes play an important role of their own
in emphasizing how animated movement can transform a painting into a more
dynamic, intriguing and captivating piece of art.
