There is a sense of accomplishment that comes out of being able to draw properly - after all, drawing is the basis of most art. It is true that if you can master the pencil then you can probably develop your skill into almost anything artistic. Evolve from black and white sketches to detailed studies on paper, and then incorporate colour into your drawing by using pastels, charcoals, colour pencils or aqua pencils. Take a risk and work with ink - you may not be able to erase anything easily, but the effect will be striking and dramatic.I have always been impressed by quality pencil or ink work, and sometimes feel that it is harder to be able to draw well with just pen and pencil than it is to paint. Drawing with pencil needs skill as well as an artistic flair - a good visual eye and a steady hand will get you far. Using different types of pencils, pens and paper, one can achieve a variety of diverse effects. In my opinion, drawings are underrated and should be accepted as works of art on their own, something one would be proud to display on their wall on in their gallery.
