NATHALIE KYROU'S ART DIRECTION & PRODUCTION DESIGNThis was one of my main areas of concentration at university, and proved to be a great way to experience, explore and learn a plethora of new ways to express myself artistically. Although Art Direction does not always encompass Production Design, the two are closely related. In Art direction you work on creating the visual style of the finished piece of work, which can range from film, television, to theatre, advertising and video. The fields that fall under this main category are extensive, but basically an Art Director is basically the person in charge of the artistic visuals of the product. Production Design is similar, but often related to the actual set - it's construction and design - and is a term used mainly in film and television, especially when a set is being created for the purpose of shooting. I learnt to work with different materials and also computer software to help creating 3D animations of the setting of a film. I also grew to understand how closely related this area of art is to lighting design and direction, in the film world. When it comes to my own art, I find that my experience in this field has shaped me into a better artist - one with a wider eye and a more stimulated imagination, where a work of art does not always have to be the finished piece of work, but rather a step towards something greater and even more developed.
