Spatal’eau - as the namesuggests - brings attention to the serious issue of water (eau) wastage (spatalo ingreek). Each piece ofart has been designed with a focus on the theme of water and its importance tous as well as what the effects of water shortage exacerbated by its wastagewill have on our environment. This is something which cannot be stressed enoughin this day and age when fresh water worldwide is becoming scarce.Last year was one of the driest Cyprus has everencountered – it is clear that this island cannot rely on rainfall alone toreplenish its depleted water supplies and refill its reservoirs which reachedtheir lowest water levels ever at the end of 2008. With figures forprecipitation frighteningly low there is reason to be alarmed especiallysince the latest report by the Environment Agency (EEA) on Europe’s changingclimate predicts the desertification of Cyprus. The future is bleak: this island willexperience more frequent and longer-lasting droughts and reduced groundwaterwhich will make quality drinking water hard to find. With the dryness comes achange in scenery too something which affects Cyprus’ landscape in detrimentalways. Rivers and waterfalls green fields and orchards of blossom trees; theseare images that are starting to belong to the past a distant memory of anatural Cyprusthat is gradually disappearing. With more heat waves and changing weatherconditions even agriculture and tourism are in serious danger something whichaffects the entire country’s economy. Better water management is one obvioussolution to our water crisis as are alternative means of water production likedesalination which are however costly. Dry taps and dried up fields havebeen our warning signs so how can we ourselves now help The answer is to stopwasting our precious water. To save water means to save Cyprus. Inspired by Cyprus’s innate beauty Nathalie’s paintings capture the splendour of naturebut also the change caused by shortage of water that is becoming apparentwith each day that passes. With a diverse range of thought-provoking paintingsdominated by a plethora of natural colours Nathalie manages to illustrate in herown unique and artistic style the devastation of the situation whilst temptingyou to dive right into her art and revel at how precious and amazing water asa substance is. By bringing awareness to people about thissignificant issuethrough a new creative means and by donating 15% from the sales of her work toFriends of the Earth – Cyprus (FoE-Cyprus is an independent non-profitenvironmental NGO part of theFriends of the Earth International network as well as a member of theFederation of Ecological and Environmental Organizations of Cyprus) Nathaliehopes to be able to contribute in some way and make a difference. The key is totake notice of what is happening and be part of the solution even in small ways.Every little bit like every little drop counts.PizzaExpress Limassol14 SpyrosKyprianou4043 YermasoyiaΤel: 25 318 709Nathalie KyrouTel: 99 377 363 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st2\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) }st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } * Style Definitions * table.MsoNormalTable	{mso-style-name:Table Normal;	mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;	mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;	mso-style-noshow:yes;	mso-style-priority:99;	mso-style-qformat:yes;	mso-style-parent:;	mso-padding-alt:0mm 5.4pt 0mm 5.4pt;	mso-para-margin:0mm;	mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt;	mso-pagination:widow-orphan;	font-size:11.0pt;	font-family:Calibrisans-serif;	mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri;	mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;	mso-fareast-font-family:Times New Roman;	mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;	mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri;	mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;	mso-bidi-font-family:Times New Roman;	mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}ΔΕΛΤΙΟ ΤΥΠΟΥΑτομική Έκθεση ΖωγραφικήςτηςΝάταλυςΚύρουΣπαταλ’eau 9 06 2009 – 9 07 2009PizzaExpress LimassolΤα εγκαίνια θα τελέσει οέντιμος Δήμαρχος Λεμεσού ο κ. Solo ART EXHIBITION Breathing Colours</title><link>http://kyrou.com/news_details.php?id=99</link><description> 5th to 21st November 2008My first solo painting exhibition ‘Breathing Colours’ took place this November 2008. My abstracts for this show all have one word vibrant names: like ‘Blast’ ‘Ripped’ or ‘Strike’. Each title represents a type of action being either a verb or a word that denotes a motion. The word “art” is only one letter different to the word “act” and my paintings accentuate the connection between the two. I feel that all art is an act or an “active” form of expression from the initial inspiration that becomes a sketch to the creation and completion of the painting itself. The visible brush and palette strokes play an important role of their own in emphasizing how animated movement can transform a painting into a more dynamic intriguing and captivating piece of art.To see the work that was featured in this exhibition please visit the homepage where you can view images in the FEATURED WORK section or browse the categories section in the left hand menu and click on ABSTRACTS and FIGURES.Click here for PRESS articles about this exhibition.ΕΧΗΙΒΙΤΙΟΝ DETAILS Breathing Colours Solo Art Exhibition by Nathalie Kyrou Opened 7.30pm Wednesday 5th November 2008Introduction by the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Andreas ChristouDates of Exhibition: 51108 – 211108Gallery Opening hours:5th - 14th November 2008 9am - 1pm 4pm - 7pm. 15th - 21st November 2008 9am - 1pmDaily except Saturday afternoons and Sundays.
